The Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the CTU in Prague (CTU FEE) has long been ranked among the ten best scientific institutions in the Czech Republic. In the long term, it generates approximately one third of the CTU's scientific performance measured by the number of impacted publications and citations. Scientific outputs also include sold international patent licenses. QS World University Ranking 2024, disciplines: Electrical Engineering #201-250, Computer Science #151-200. CTU, 2024: #420, 2023: #378, 2022: #403, 2021: #432, 2020: #498.
There are many research teams at the faculty, which you can get involved in, especially as a student of doctoral degree programme, but if you are really interested in science, you can start as a master's student.
Prospective doctoral students apply directly to a specific supervisor, selecting a dissertation topic within a diverse range of disciplines. The role of the supervisor is crucial in your doctoral studies. As you will work closely and intensively on your chosen research project, it is essential that your supervisor is an expert in the field. Before submitting your application, we strongly encourage you to discuss your research ideas with your potential supervisor to ensure alignment and gain valuable insights.
At FEE CTU we have the following doctoral programmes:
Acoustics
Applied Physics
Bioengineering
Economics of Energy and Electrical Engineering
Electrical Engineering and Communications
History of Science and Technology
Computer Science
Cybernetics and Robotics
Aeronautical and Space Engineering
Mathematical Engineering
A completed master's degree is a necessary requirement for admission to doctoral studies. However, you may apply even if you have not yet obtained your degree, as long as you expect to complete your state exam before the start of your doctoral programme.
The average net income of doctoral students with supervisors from CTU FEE (in the range of 20 - 80 percentile) during the standard period of full-time doctoral studies is 19 - 49 thousand CZK/month, which corresponds to a gross income of 23 - 63 thousand CZK/month (updated 03/2025). The income is composed of a tax-free state scholarship supplemented by funds from the internal Student Grant Competition and usually income from employment at the FEE – work on scientific projects. For exceptional results of creative work (e.g. articles in good impacted journals) or pedagogical activities, the dean usually awards a one-off special-purpose scholarship, which forms the motivational part of the income. Under these conditions, PhD students can devote themselves to scientific work full-time.
The application must be submitted electronically by April 30, 2025 for the beginning of studies from September 1, 2025. Entrance exams are held June, 10 to 21, 2025.
