Anotation:

The course focuses on advanced image and signal processing with a focus on imaging and radio systems. The emphasis is on the implementation of algorithms as well as on individual work in the laboratory. Students will verify the principles of algorithms in solving non-trivial problems, such as processing of image data from wide-field systems used in astronomy, fast processing of large data volume from non-linear image system, 2D photometric system calibration, and real-time GNSS signal processing.

Course outlines:

1. Introduction, signal and image processing fundamentals.
2. Advanced C – pointers, memory management.
3. Assembly. MIPS.
4. Single-Cycle control. Pipelining.
5. Memory hierarchy. Fully associative caches. Multilevel caches.
6. Floating vs. Fixed point artithmetic. Performance.
7. Data level paralelism. SIMD
8. Thread level paralelism. OpenMP.
9. Compiling and optimization for high performance systems.
10. Introduction to heterogeneous computing systems.
11. FPGA design.
12. Heterogeneous computing with GPUs.
13. GNSS signal processing.
14. Future computer architectures. Deep learning application.
