Anotation:
The aim of the course is to introduce advanced methods of fiber optical detection based on gratings (FBG LPG), polarization, light scattering (Rayleigh, Raman, Brillouin) and interferometric approaches. It covers both analytical descriptions of the physical interactions, field distributions etc., as well as approaches to design of the detectors and measurement methodologies using fiber optic detectors with demonstration of specific applications (medical, aerospace, petrochemical, nuclear, etc.).
Course outlines:
1. | | Optical fibers - types, parameters, design, overview of detection methods |
2 Direct detection, optical modulators
3. | | Surface plasmons and fiber tapers |
4. | | Detection based on FBG (Fiber Bragg grating) and LPG (Long-period fiber grating) |
5. | | Detection using microstructured fibers |
6. | | Polarization based sensors |
7. | | Fabry-Perot interferometric sensors |
8. | | Distributed sensors |
9. | | Sensors based on Rayleigh scattering, OTDR, coherent OTDR |
10. | | Raman sensors, ROTDR |
11. | | Temperature sensors based on Brillouin effect (BOTDR), cracks detection |
12. | | Optical gyro sensors, sensors in aviation |
13. | | Fiber sensors for medical purposes |
14. | | Integrated sensors in real infrastructures |
Exercises outline:
