New professors Martin Hromčík and Martin Saska from FEE CTU received their appointment decrees from President Pavel
The Faculty of Electrical Engineering at CTU has two new professors. The President of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, appointed Doc. Ing. Martin Hromčík, Ph.D., and Doc. Ing. Martin Saska, Dr. rer. nat., both in the field of cybernetics and robotics. They received their appointment decrees on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at a ceremony in the Great Hall of Karolinum, attended by Minister of Education, Youth, and Sports Robert Plaga.
New PhD and postdoc positions in medical image processing
The research group of Prof. Jan Kybic is offering 2 PhD and 2 Postdoc positions in the field of medical image processing.
The project, Embryo quality estimation from time lapse images for assisted reproduction, supported by the Czech Health Research Council (AZV ČR), focuses on predicting the genetic quality of human embryos from time-lapse videos of embryo development. This includes, among other things, the problem of automatic classification of developmental stages, utilization of temporal coherence, compensation for differences between imaging systems, automatic segmentation of individual parts, creation of clinically motivated and automatically learned descriptors, and the combination of all relevant data for the final prediction. This project is primarily focused on the application and adaptation of existing methods to new problems.
The project, "Leveraging expert knowledge for medical image segmentation," supported by the Czech Science Foundation (GAČR), will seek to improve the quality and efficiency of automatic segmentation using expert-defined constraints concerning invariance, topology, dimensions, position, number, shape, and other properties. New methods should be more robust and require a smaller volume of training data. We will attempt to connect deep learning-based segmentation methods with optimization methods under constraints, or alternatively, ensure that conditions are met through suitable parameterization or network architecture. This project is focused more on the development of new methods than on a specific application and is therefore suitable for candidates with deeper knowledge of mathematics and algorithmization.
Both projects require a good knowledge of programming and methods for image processing and machine learning, including deep learning. Start date as soon as possible.
Which Robot Plays Tetris Best? The High School Robosoutěž Final at FEE CTU Was Won by Team K-2SO from Nový PORG Grammar School in Prague
A total of 167 kit-built robots from across the Czech Republic entered this year’s 17th edition of the Robosoutěž for high school teams organized by the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, CTU in Prague. Today, the traditional grand final took place on the faculty’s premises, with 33 of the best teams advancing from four qualifying rounds. The winner was a “Tetris player” built by team K-2SO from Nový PORG grammar school, while second place went to the robot vehicle developed by team WIP from Benešov Grammar School. Teachers Awarded by the Dean for Outstanding Teaching Performance in the Summer Semester 2024/2025
The dean awarded the teachers for their outstanding pedagogical achievements based on the recommendations of a committee established by him. The committee drew on the results of the student survey, placing emphasis on students’ verbal feedback, as well as on nominations from department heads. It also took into account factors such as the quality of teaching materialsand the how demanding the teacher is. In its evaluation, the committee selected from among instructors who had not been awarded in the same category within the past three years.
Robotic Tetris in a battle between school teams and construction kits. Watch the high school Robosoutěž finals on Friday, December 12!
In the finals of the FEE ČVUT Robosoutěž high school competition, 33 robots will compete this Friday in a task inspired by the well-known video game Tetris. These are the best robots that advanced from four preliminary rounds in November out of a total of 167 entries. This year's 17th edition of the traditional competition is also characterized by its multi-platform nature – teams can build robots from several kits, including this year's BRIAN kit from FEE ČVUT. The event is open to the public and can be watched live on YouTube.
