A short term postdoctoral researcher positions

The Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Czech Technical University in Prague, invites to submit applications for a short term postdoctoral researcher positions

The call is open to exceptional candidates from all fields of research at FEE.

The contracts will be temporary with duration of 3 to 5 months. The salary is competitive, reflecting quality and experience of the candidate.

Minimum requirements:

  • a PhD degree awarded not more than 7 years by the start date,
  • at least two journal papers registered in WoS, Scopus or ERIH databases published in the last three years by the start date,
  • PhD study or research job outside of the Czech Republic for at least two years during the last three years by the start date,
  • prospective candidates have to find a tutor/host among the faculty academic staff.

The application must include:

  • the proposed research project
  • with a signed approval of the FEE’s tutor/host,
  • professional CV incl. a list of publications with links to full texts of the most important papers,
  • at least one Letter of recommendation of an academic referee,
  • a link to the GoogleScholar web page or ORCID / ResearcherID,
  • statement of the head of the department with the obligation to co-finance the set cost of the position.

Only candidates not requiring work permit (visa) are eligible since it is not possible to complete the visa process within the project funding period.

CTU Global Postdoc Fellowship Round II at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering

The Vice-Chancellor of the Czech Technical University in Prague invites applications for the CTU Global Postdoc Fellowship Program, Round II at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of CTU.

This new and attractive two-year fellowship-program offers excellent researchers who have recently completed their PhD the chance to continue their research career at CTU. Fellows will receive a two-year fellowship and become members of a team led by a mentor.

The fellowship aims primarily at external international scientists who are currently conducting research abroad. Applicants must prove completion of their PhD within the last seven years (i.e., 2015 or later), no later than the start date of their employment contract. The fellowship aims at authors (co-authors) of two or more publications in a journal with IF. The mentor has a strong vote in the selection process.

The CTU Global Postdoc Fellowship is open to topics listed below in this document. Researchers are invited to apply directly to the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. Applicants who successfully passed the Round I interview and were not eligible due to not proving a successful completion of their PhD may also be considered.

The Department of Cybernetics is opening postdoc position in humanoid robotics

Postdoc position in humanoid robotics

There is a postdoc opening in the humanoid, cognitive, neuro-, and collaborative robotics group coordinated by Dr. Matej Hoffmann at the Department of Cybernetics, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Czech Technical University in Prague.

The topics are in the context of a 5-year project entitled “Whole-body awareness for safe and natural interaction: from brains to collaborative robots” for excellence in fundamental research from the Czech Science Foundation (see  https://cyber.felk.cvut.cz/news/new-gacr-expro-project for more information) and include:

  • Employing humanoid robots with artificial skin to construct embodied computational models of body and peripersonal space representations
  • Neural network models of multisensory integration and peripersonal space
  • Physical human-robot interaction with special focus on tactile and proximity sensing
  • Social human-robot interaction focusing on touch and interpersonal distance

The postdoc will independently conduct research and will also be involved in shaping the research of the group and supervising students. The gross salary will be in the range of CZK 50 000-70 000 per month (approx. 2000-2700 EUR) depending on qualification, plus direct bonuses for scientific achievements such as top-tier publications.

Robots and infrastructure

The humanoids group has at its disposal several humanoid robots (iCub, 2 Naos - 1 with whole-body sensitive skin) and collaborative or lightweight manipulators (KUKA LBR iiwa, UR10e with Airskin, Kinova Gen3). Additional infrastructure includes several robot hands (Barrett Hand BH8-282, QB Soft Hand) and grippers, a 3D Motion Capture System, impact measuring devices, etc.  The group has also access to the facilities of the Research Center for Informatics such as a high-performance computational cluster.

There is a large group of international experts who have agreed to act as collaborators/advisors on the project. These include experts in

The Department of Cybernetics is opening a tenure-track position in robotics

Robotics - design, modeling and control: Tenure track position

The Department of Cybernetics, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Czech Technical University in Prague, is opening a tenure-track position in robotics. We invite applications from outstanding candidates that would further widen and strengthen the excellent research and teaching environment at the Department.

About the Department:

The Department of Cybernetics has a strong track record in machine perception and computer vision. More recently, there has been substantial development in robotics, with groups focusing on search and rescue roboticsaerial robotics and swarms of drones and humanoid robotics. The groups, together with roboticists from the Department of Computer science, form the Center for Robotics and Autonomous Systems. The robotics teams have recently succeeded in numerous competitions: CTU team ranked 3rd overall and 1st among self-funded teams in Tunnel Circuit round (2019) and the Urban Circuit (2020) of the DARPA SubTerranean challenge; the “drone team”  won the 1st place in Grand Challenge, 1st place in Challenge 2, and 2nd place in Challenge 1 of the Mohamed Bin Zayed International Robotics Challenge 2020.

Hardware infrastructure at the Department includes wheeled, tracked, and legged robots for search and rescue operation, industrial as well as collaborative or lightweight manipulators (KUKA LBR iiwa, UR10e with Airskin, Kinova Gen3), flying robots - fleets of UAVs, and humanoid robots (2x Nao; iCub - in production).  The Department has access to a high-performance computational cluster dedicated to the artificial intelligence research and developments using traditional multi-CPU systems, but also GPUs.

Professional support is provided by the administration and project office with long experience of managing international projects.

There is currently a highly dynamic research environment in Prague beyond the Department, as witnessed by for example the Research Center For Informatics or Prague AI.

What we expect:

We are looking for a researcher with expertise in robotics, preferably in the domain of robot mechatronics design, robot control and modeling. The candidate should be visible at leading robotics conferences and journals and have experience in real (beyond simulation) robotics.

A starting package for three years that includes full funding of the candidate, two PhD students and an appropriate share of administrative support. After three years, the candidate will be evaluated with the possibility of extending the contract or transforming it to a tenured position.

Avast funded chair in Cybersecurity at Artificial Intelligence Center, Czech Technical University in Prague

Artificial Intelligence Center from the Czech Technical University in Prague is opening a call for applications for the position in Cybersecurity funded by Avast in the rank of either senior scientist, assistant/associated professor leading toward a tenure track contract. Special arrangement can be made for candidates qualifying for the full professor’s (chair) rank.

The call is open for the candidate, who will form a long term vision of the department in cybersecurity and AI. The candidate, PhD holder, needs to be ready for an academic career, while be keen to collaborate with industry to further develop her/his expert knowledge. The candidate will assume leadership in cybersecurity lecturing, will continue developing his own research agenda, publish in high impact publications and will supervise master and PhD students. The applicant will be expected to write funding proposals and secure further research funding.

The Artificial Intelligence Center and the Department of Computer Science, at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of Czech Technical University in Prague are rapidly growing research oriented entities, one of the leading research and education institutions in the combined fields of computer science, artificial intelligence, machine learning, multiagent systems and robotics. The AI center focuses on fundamental and application oriented research and technology transfer in the various fields of AI. The AI center is engaged in technology transfer through startup companies (e.g. BlindSpot Solutions, AgentFly Technologies, Cognitive Security (NASDAQ:CSCO)). The department provides bachelor and master students with a specialized computer science program. Researcher/Postdoc position in mobile networks laboratory

We invite applications for a researcher/postdoc in the area of future mobile network based on cloud computing (C-RAN, MEC). The position is a part of an industrial research project focused on C-RAN and edge computing. The research will be carried out in 5Gmobile research lab, Department of Telecommunication Engineering at CTU in Prague, Czech Republic (http://5gmobile.fel.cvut.cz/).

The full time contract with competitive salary will be set from October or November for one year with possible extension depending on the performance and available funding.

Postdoctoral research associate investigating fundamental bounds on radiation and scattering metrics

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research associate investigating fundamental bounds on radiation and scattering metrics at Czech Technical University in Prague.

The successful candidate will join the CEM research group of Dr. Miloslav Capek and Dr. Lukas Jelinek, and will investigate inter alia fundamental bounds, convex and heuristic optimization technics for antenna and antenna array synthesis, and definition and utilization of matrix operators in method of moments. A close collaboration with both national and international groups is expected.

The candidate is expected to apply for a full-time position with a length between one and two years.

The candidate must hold (by the start date) a Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering or physics. Strong background in classical electromagnetism, antenna theory, numerical methods, and optimization techniques is highly desirable. Good programming skills are mandatory with an ability to port those skills into MATLAB environment in which the group operates. Skills in LaTeX, Beamer and TikZ are welcomed, but not mandatory. The candidate should have a publication record in the above-mentioned research fields commensurate with his/her career stage and must be able to demonstrate a capacity for an independent research. Written English on the level C1 is demanded.

The appointment will be on the Research Associate scale at a level determined by skills and experience. Expenses for computing associated with the project will be provided. The position is available immediately, but no later than 31st of August 2018.
