News in doctoral studies starting September 1, 2025
Dear doctoral students of CTU FEE,
On March 1, 2025, an amendment to Act No. 111/1998 Coll., on higher education institutions, came into effect, changing certain aspects of doctoral studies, in particular the minimum income of students (§ 91a Doctoral study income and doctoral scholarship).
In response to this, on May 28, 2025, the Academic Senate of CTU amended the Study and Examination Regulations for CTU Students (SZŘ) and the CTU Scholarship Regulations (SŘ). Both internal regulations will come into effect and will be published after registration by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, which has a statutory deadline of 90 days.
In order to inform you in a timely manner and avoid any delays, we are presenting the key changes here in brief.
Doctoral study income
With effect from September 1, 2025, a new term, Doctoral Study Income (DoStuP), is being introduced, and its guaranteed amount is 1.2 times the minimum wage. DoStuP may consist of: a doctoral scholarship, wages/salary for creative work related to the preparation of a dissertation, or a combination of both.
DoStuP is awarded upon request (form) to all newly enrolled students (from September 1, 2025) who are studying for their first doctoral degree and are enrolled in full-time study. A formal scholarship application is required, and the application attachments take into account the new provisions of the Higher Education Act, § 91a.
According to the updated SZŘ and SŘ, current students enrolled in full-time study are also eligible for DoStuP if they have not exceeded the standard duration of study and if they apply for it (form) and submit all the required attachments to the Department of Science and Research.
Before submitting their application, existing students must have their Individual Study Plan (ISP) reviewed or updated and re-approved by the Program Board after July 1, 2025.
There will be no change in income for existing students enrolled in full-time study unless they apply for DoStuP.
Individual study plan and study supervision
Newly, the individual study plan (ISP) is created by the supervisor in appropriate cooperation with the student (according to the Study Regulations, Article 26, paragraph 1). According to the updated SZŘ, current students now have the right to request the Program Advisory Board (ORP) to review and adjust the ISP. The ORP conducts a regular review of the proper fulfillment of the ISP at least once a year.
State final examination
For all students entering doctoral studies after September 1, 2025, the state final examination will take the form of a defense of the dissertation only.
For current students, the obligation to take the state doctoral examination in its current form (examination of state examination topics and defense of the dissertation) remains in this revision of the SZŘ unchanged.
