New Fulbright-CTU Distinguished Chair for 2016/17 selected

Professor Jeff Frolik becomes CTU Distinguished Chair at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in January 2017 for the period of five months.

Professor Frolik currently works at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the University of Vermont. His main focus is sensor networks and wireless communications. He will be teaching wave propagation in wireless communications within the study program of Electronics and Communications at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Prague.

Pavel Pechac, the Head of the Department of Electromagnetic Field commented on hosting a distinguished scientist: "Our department is very much looking forward to Professor Frolik. We will be happy to be inspired by foreign experience and teaching methods."

Current Fulbright-CTU Distinguished Chair at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering is Professor Martin Margala from the University of Massachusetts in Lowell. Dean of the Faculty prof. Pavel Ripka commented on hosting foreign professors: "I am glad that the faculty will host a distinguished foreign expert who can give us an interesting feedback." He adds: "As being the best technical faculty in the Czech Republic, there is no time for rest, we have to compete with the best (universities). Professor Frolik will be one of the key consultants of the project that focuses on conversion of doctoral study programs at our faculty. This project is supported by Ministry of Education (Research, Development and Education)."

The Fulbright Fellowship program was founded in 1946. Since then, there were 300 000 students, scientists and teachers participating in the program. Among them Nobel Prize winners, Pulitzer Prize winner, governors, senators, ambassadors, artists, judges, premiers, heads of states, professors and scientists. The program gives out around 8000 scholarships a year. In the category for scientists and university teachers, there were 800 applicants from the United States who were sent out to 130 different countries. The most prestigious award is Distinguished Chair Award. Forty candidates are being chosen each year, four of them coming from the Czech Republic. Fulbright's partners are Charles University, Masaryk University, Palacky University and Czech Technical University in Prague.
