Our Research

Computer graphics is a dynamic research field, which deals with modeling and rendering of virtual environments, visualization of scientific data, virtual and augmented reality, interactive image manipulation, and other areas related to processing of graphical information.

The goal of our research activities is developing new methods, algorithms, and data structures, which will extend the current state of the art in the area of computer graphics. The results of our research can be applied for example in predictive rendering for architecture and automotive industry, computer games, movie industry, virtual presentations of cultural heritage, or visualizations of scientific and medical data.

Our Current Work

Our activities are focused on the following research topics:

  • Fast ray tracing based image synthesis methods
  • Complexity analysis for image synthesis
  • Data structures for ray tracing in complex dynamic scenes
  • Efficient rendering of shadows in complex scenes
  • Procedural generation of cities
  • Fast approximate global illumination in complex scenes
  • Image manipulation techniques for animated movies
  • Adding depth into hand-drawn animations
  • Example-based synthesis of hand-colored animations

Application Highlight

The fastest minimal cut solver for grid-like topology graphs (U.S. Patent No. 8,533,139).
