The Teachers Club: Students Cheating - How to Handle it? (Vol 2.)

         <datum>13.05.2026</datum>

Teachers’ Club is the series of informal meetings of CTU lecturers at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. This time, the meeting will focus on reviewing a thesis.
The topic for May 13th is Students Cheating - How to Handle it?

The Disciplinary Committee of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering (FEL) at the Czech Technical University in Prague (ČVUT) deals with allegations of disciplinary offenses committed by FEL students. It does so at the request of the Dean of FEL, to whom it submits the conclusions of its proceedings and a proposal for a decision.

Although anyone can file an allegation, the committee has dealt with suspiciously few cases recently. Either students have stopped cheating, or the awareness of the committee and its powers dropped for some reason, or certain types of cheating are tolerated/dealt with unofficially. That is why we are organizing this discussion—to try to find out the current opinion of teachers and, if necessary, to consider improvements. Specifically, you can expect the following agenda for the discussion:

A brief presentation of current practices in the context of students' infringements.
Introduction of the ombudswoman and her role in disciplinary proceedings.
Discussion of current approaches taken by teachers.
13.05.2026, 14.15 - 16.00, T2:C3-132

         <datum>14.05.2026</datum>

We would like to invite you to a guest lecture by Dr. Jussi Sihvo on the topic of impedance-based diagnostics of batteries for research and industrial practice. The lecture will take place on Thursday, 14 May 2026, from 13:00 to 14:30 in room A4-7, Technická 2, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Czech Technical University in Prague, and will also be available online.

The lecture will introduce the use of impedance-based methods, including electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, for battery diagnostics and state estimation. Dr. Sihvo will discuss how the impedance of Li-ion batteries can be measured, interpreted, and used to assess battery condition, health, and lifetime. The lecture will also present recent developments in the field, with examples from Dr. Sihvo’s own research carried out during his MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship at Aalborg University, Denmark, and within his current Academy Research Fellow project at Tampere University, Finland.
Dr. Jussi Sihvo received his Ph.D. degree in battery modeling and system identification from Tampere University, Finland, in 2021. He subsequently spent two years at Aalborg University, Denmark, as an MSCA Postdoctoral Fellow. He is currently an Academy Research Fellow at Tampere University, where his research focuses on advanced battery management, modeling, diagnostics, and measurement methods. His expertise includes the modeling, measurement, and analysis of battery and hydrogen storage systems, with a particular focus on electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and its use in Li-ion battery health estimation, lifetime modeling, condition monitoring, and cell sorting for first- and second-life battery applications.

Dr. Sihvo’s visit builds on an existing collaboration with the Battery & Energy Storage Systems research group at CTU. This is not his first lecture at CTU, as he has previously contributed to the CTU Battery Days series. His current project, funded by the Academy of Finland and entitled “Intelligent battery management protocols: real-time impedance-based state estimation methods for lifetime maximization of Li-ion batteries and applications,” focuses on integrating impedance-based condition monitoring algorithms into battery management system architectures for real-time battery monitoring. The aim of the project is to improve battery management methods and, in turn, enhance the performance and lifetime of Li-ion batteries and their applications.

Teachers’ Club is the series of informal meetings of CTU lecturers at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. This time, the meeting will focus on reviewing a thesis.
The topic for May 20th is How is teaching financed?

Most of us are familiar with the notion that education at universities is underfunded. It is something of an accepted fact. But how many of us thought about what that exactly means?

Where does the education money come from? How is it distributed to departments? How well does it cover the teaching costs? How is it allocated to teachers? How much is teaching subsidized?

First we will discuss KOMETA2, the methodology used to allocate teaching money to departments at the faculty. Then representatives of the Cybernetics, Computer Science and Computer Graphics and Interaction departments will say a few words about how teaching is funded at their departments. Afterwards there will be a Q&A session.
20.05.2026, 15.00 - 16.00, KN:E-112

The Teachers Club: Outcome-Based Education (OBE): Introduction

         <datum>26.05.2026</datum>

Teachers’ Club is the series of informal meetings of CTU lecturers at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. This time, the meeting will focus on reviewing a thesis. The topic for May 26th is Outcome-Based Education (OBE): Introduction.

Outcome-Based Education (OBE) has become an important framework in modern higher education, focusing on measurable learning outcomes, student-centered teaching, and continuous quality improvement. It emphasizes what students are expected to achieve by the end of a course or program, ensuring alignment between teaching methods, learning activities, and assessment. However, the level of awareness and implementation of OBE principles can vary among instructors. While some courses already incorporate clearly defined learning outcomes and aligned assessments, others may still rely on more traditional approaches. This seminar aims to provide a clear introduction to OBE concepts and to encourage discussion on how these principles can be effectively integrated into teaching practice.

Specifically, the seminar will cover:
    • A brief introduction to Outcome-Based Education and its key principles
    • Explanation of Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs) and Course Learning

Outcomes (CLOs)
    • Alignment of teaching methods and assessment with learning outcomes
    • Practical examples from teaching practice
    • Open discussion on challenges and potential improvements in implementing OBE
26.05.2026, 11.00 - 12.00, ČVUT FEL, KN:G-205, Karlovo náměstí 13, Praha
